Travel Tips

The airports closest to Cologne City are the:

  • Cologne Bonn Airport (15km)
  • Düsseldorf Airport (45km)
  • Frankfurt Airport  (145 km)

From Cologne Bonn Airport you can reach Cologne central station by rapid-transit railway (S13 Line) in just 15min. Düsseldorf Airport is connected to Cologne central station via rapid-transit railway (S11 Line, about 80min) or intercity railway (IC/ICE trains, about 45min). The trip from Frankfurt Airport to Cologne central station with the ICE high speed train only takes about an hour.

How to Get to the Conference Center

Cologne central station ("Hauptbahnhof") is within walking distance (about 10min) from the conference center, Gürzenich Hall, and the InterContinental Hotel. You may also take the 132 bus to the "Gürzenichstrasse" stop. The other hotels recommended by the symposium organizers can also easily be reached by public transport. Cologne has an efficient public transport system. However, the recommended hotels, the symposium venue as well as other places of interest are all within a comfortable walking distance from each other. A taxi from the central station to the Gürzenich Hall costs about € 10.

Climate & Weather in Cologne

Due to its location on a low-lying plane which is largely surrounded by hills, Cologne has a special microclimate and is the city with the highest average temperature in Germany. That means that the weather features humid summers and mild winters. In fall and even up till November the weather can be warm and sunny, but one might also have to face chilly and rainy days at that time of the year.
